Fender - Tremolux-Amp 6G9 MODDED
Vintage 1963 Made in USA - Original Blonde Tolex Tremolux-Amp 6G9 Circuit (1961-1969) - Serialised 04381 - 30/40 Watt Tube Guitar Head.
*EXTENSIVELY MODIFIED*
Originally this amp featured a Tube Rectifier, but this has been removed in preference of higher efficiency Diode rectification. The Output Valves are a pair of 5881s and likely now yield 40~50 watts (rather than 30 watts under the original tube rec).
Tremolo circuit modified for boost controls per channel.
The Front Grille has been changed for the cool psychedelic pattern as shown.
The Output and Choke Transformers are original, but the Input/Power Transformer has been changed for an unknown 240 Volt version (looks sturdy!).
A DIN plug footswitch plug was added but not wired in.
The original name plate has been repainted meticulously and is pretty decent!
The major changes are to the circuit itself; the previously external Filter Capacitor array has now been moved to the internal cavity. The circuit now has standby and power LEDs added in.
Beyond this, there are clear signs of an extensive rebuild and redesign of the circuit - The original circuit board remains in use.
It was suggested by the seller that it had been modded to take on the voicing of a Marshall but this is yet to be defined.
Channel 1 / Normal is a single gain stage and suited for a clean sound. The ‘INTENSITY’ control from the former Tremolo acts as a gain boost - increasing harmonic break up at the same volume (bass frequencies become looser as breakup increases).
Channel 2 / BRIGHT is a dual gain stage and hotter signal - Like on Ch1, the ‘SPEED’ control from the Trem circuit now acts as a gain boost for this channel.
Both Channels offer a huge range or Treble/Bass sweep.
Sounds pretty great in its current state but also offers a solid opportunity for restoration to original spec.
