Mozztronics - EX-1 Expandrive
There are many variants on two common designs. The tube screamer uses diode clipping around an op amp feedback loop. The distortion plus has diode clipping to ground after the main gain stage. Often the distortion stage is followed by a low pass filter to smooth off the sharp clipping caused by the diodes. While these designs sound good, there are some features you cant dial in with these types of pedals. Some people use different diodes with different forward voltage to get a different sound. So this is the Mozztronics take on this style of pedal. We use the diode clipping to ground arrangement, but we have added adjustable asymmetry, and an expansion control which will control how much the character of the distortion changes as you push the guitar harder. The Pure Gain plus was designed, based on some suggestions made by Dweezil Zappa. The idea was for a multifunction unit, which can be used as both a passive a/b box (with LED selection indicators) and a dual gain booster, which is based on the Plush Pure Gain. The PGP can be used with two guitars, to both level match as well as boost them. The unit can be run passive or active. When used with a single guitar, the PGP acts as a two stage boost with bypass. The Pure Gain Plus is built from the finest premium parts, and will give you years of enjoyment and high performance with no maintenance required.

Emulates the sound of a Voltage Starved Marshall JMP It has a tonne of gain, and can dial in a fat bottom end to fake a big amp sound. Some pedals claim to stack well together, but the Brown Sound can also be a stack all by itself. This circuit also responds excellently to rolling back the instrument volume knob. It stacks best with other drive pedals running into the input. Distortion is achieved by overdriving NOS Fairchild 5457 field effect transistors, being the closest solid-state relative to vacuum tubes. There are three stacked gain stages.
