Vintage 1969 Made in the USA - Hand Built by Bartell of California under Paul Barth(Ex Magnatone and Rickenbacker). Very rare and very cool model. Bartell was an established company making some very nice instruments when the Acoustic Control Corporation contracted them to make a series of guitars/basses under their name, and called them the Black Widow. At some point, Hohner, who had previously contracted Bartell, followed up an unfilled backorder with Bartell for a few basses/guitars that he had yet to deliver. As a result, Bartell simply badged a few of these Black Widows as Hohner in order to meet the request (look at how askew the logo is! Slap dash finishing touch to an otherwise amazing instrument). Production of the Black Widow was later moved to Japan for a few years between 1970 and 1973, before again returning to California but this time under a contract with Semi Mosley of Mosrite. This one has Schaller Machine Heads but is otherwise all original. Comes with an ESP gig bag.

* Semi-attempted sanding of the body. Once the perpetrator realised the reality of extended effort necessary to obtain a half-decent result, they consequently gave up and left the guitar to wallow in half-sanded abandonment. Awaiting someone with ten fingers and heart. Someone to give it a home. Someone to love it for the sweet axe it is!

This is Number 5 of a Pilot Run! Only 45 were made for North America and a total of 100 worldwide!
Released in 2015. (Lenny Kravitz owns a prototype).
The story goes: In 1960, at the request of its original owner, Gibson did what would be unthinkable today; they painted an Ebony finish over a beautiful Sunburst Les Paul. At the time however, the motivation for this odd special order was simple, as the player placing it couldn’t afford the higher cost of a Les Paul Custom but had fallen in love with the shiny Black nitrocellulose finish. Over time, evidence of what lies beneath the factory applied Ebony finish began to present itself and a very sought after 1960 Les Paul was in the making. Today, a guitar known as “Blackburst” resides in private collection.
This is the ultimate collector's guitar! Try to find another one!!
